Region Ten Community Services Board is Hiring a Direct Support Professional (REACH), PRN Near Charlottesville, VA

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent serves as a Region 1 Regional Education Assessment Crisis Services Habilitation (REACH) DSP for adults with developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs in addition to those presenting with challenging behaviors (DD/BH) residing in Developmental Services Region I of Virginia which covers the nine Community Services Boards (CSBs) within Region 1. This position is the REACH Crisis Therapeutic Home (RCTH) direct care professional. This position participates in facilitating daily programs and individualized activities and support for habilitative and/or rehabilitative activities, therapeutic interventions, personal care/assistance, health care and other activities. DSPs participates as part of comprehensive REACH services that collaborate with individual’s primary provider and clinical home, community crisis services, family and others.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution required. Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and/or Qualified Developmental Disabilities Professional (QDDP) – Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field from an accredited institution and no less than one year of full-time relevant experience. Valid Virginia Driver's License plus an acceptable driving record as issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles is required. The incumbent must be able to perform all essential duties. In addition, the incumbent needs to possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Characteristics and service needs of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, behavioral disorders, language disorders, and other sensory impairments;
  • Principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse;
  • Adherence to existing professional ethical standards;
  • Adherence to licensure regulations related to services provided;
  • Non-aversive behavioral management techniques/crisis intervention skills;
  • Data collection capabilities;
  • Specific local, state and federal regulations;
  • Philosophies of normalization/ integration

Skills in:

  • Consumer needs assessment, service planning, development of habilitative programs and evaluation of individual progress;
  • General knowledge of counseling and behavioral management skills with dually-diagnosed persons;
  • General knowledge in the management of aggressive behaviors;
  • Organizing records;
  • Service delivery;
  • Negotiating services with contractual and other agencies;
  • Managing medical emergencies;

Abilities to:

  • Adhere to established policies and procedures;
  • Analyze situations accurately and develop clinically appropriate responses and/or interventions;
  • Communicate effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team in relaying information to facilitate treatment;
  • Perform clinical interviews in order to obtain information and to formulate appropriate treatment plans;
  • Effectively communicate in writing and to prepare written documents;
  • Utilize database systems and software to efficiently and effectively meet programming requirements and needs;
  • Willingness to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license;
  • Develop and maintain professional and therapeutic relationships;
  • Promote positive, collaborative, and professional working relations among co-workers and representatives in the community;
  • Record data and complete documentation within established expectations and by communicated deadlines;
  • Work effectively to coordinate plans and assist in delivering quality services;
  • Assess physical environments in meeting client needs;
  • Respond effectively to changes in the work environment in a positive and professional manner;
  • Work in and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

POSITION LOCATION: On site of REACH Crisis Therapeutic Home; other Region Ten group homes and day programs as assigned. Travel throughout Region 1.

SALARY: Grade 7

SCHEDULE: Varies

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $16.54 per hour
